Kendrick looking to bounce back from first loss
Jul 24, 2007 - 3:42 PM Washington (42-56) at Philadelphia (50-48) 7:05 pm EDTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - Rookie Kyle Kendrick will hope to rebound from his first career loss when the Philadelphia Phillies host the Washington Nationals in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday.
The 22-year-old Kendrick (4-1, 4.40 ERA) surrendered five runs and seven hits with three strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings en route to recording his first career loss, a 5-4 setback to the Los Angeles Dodgers, after starting his rookie campaign unbeaten in his first six starts.
The Phillies are looking to extend their three-game winning streak after outscoring the San Diego Padres, 28-7, over that stretch.
The Nationals will counter with Jason Bergmann (2-5, 4.46), who will hope to extend the club's 20-inning scoreless streak.
The 25-year-old righthander pitched six innings, giving up four runs and six hits with three strikeouts in a 7-6 victory over the Houston Astros on Wednesday. The win was Bergmann's first since May 14.
Washington has won four of its last five contests.
