Giants go for fifth straight win against Mets

Sep 18, 2013 - 2:51 PM (Sports Network) - Matt Cain tries to pitch the San Francisco Giants to a fifth straight win on Wednesday when they continue a three-game set with the New York Mets at Citi Field.

Angel Pagan drove in three runs and fell a double short of the cycle in Tuesday's opener, as San Francisco rolled to an 8-5 win.

"He's done such a nice job since he's come back," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said about Pagan. "I think we've seen the difference he makes on our club."

The Giants took advantage of a career-high six walks from New York starter Zack Wheeler, plating three of their runs in the second inning. Gregor Blanco, Buster Posey, Tony Abreu and Hunter Pence each drove in a run on the night.

"He (Wheeler) couldn't find the zone, fell behind (hitters) and wound up falling behind because of it," said Mets manager Terry Collins about Wheeler's command.

Daniel Murphy and Josh Satin both had two hits in the loss for the Mets, who have lost six of nine.

Getting the call for San Francisco on Wednesday will be Cain, who is 8-9 with a 4.24 ERA. Cain did not get a decision on Thursday in Los Angeles, but pitched well, surrendering just one earned run in seven innings of his team's 3-2 loss.

Cain is 5-5 in 11 starts versus the Mets with a 4.00 ERA.

New York, meanwhile, will counter with right-handed veteran Aaron Harang, who will be making his second start for the Mets. Harang lost his first start with them on Thursday to Washington, as he allowed three runs and four hits in six innings.

Harang started his season with the Seattle Mariners and is 5-12 overall on the year with a 5.70 ERA

New York swept a three-game series from the Giants in early July.
