Yankees aim to push winning streak to six games

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - The New York Yankees hopes to continue their second-half surge when they meet the Kansas City on Wednesday.

Bobby Abreu and Jorge Posada each drove in a pair of runs as New York extended its winning streak to five games with a 9-4 triumph on Tuesday.

The Yankees will hand the ball to Mike Mussina (4-7, 4.97 ERA), who tries to pick up his first win in four outings. Last time out, Mussina was hammered for six runs and seven hits of a 14-4 thrashing to Tampa Bay on Friday.

The veteran righthander has just two wins total through his last 12 starts overall and is 15-7 in 31 trips to the mound against the Royals.

Kansas City's Gil Meche (7-6, 3.63) has been total opposite of Mussina, winning four consecutive outings. Meche limited the Detroit Tigers to two runs in seven frames of an easy 10-2 win.

The All-Star righthander is 3-2 with a 3.88 ERA in nine starts against the Yankees while with Seattle. Meche inked lucrative five-year deal with Kansas City in the offseason.
