Homers enable White Sox to edge Blue Jays
Sep 24, 2013 - 5:40 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in the makeup of a previously scheduled rainout.Avisail Garcia clubbed a solo homer and Dayan Viciedo added a run scored for the White Sox, winners in two straight.
Jose Quintana (9-6) allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six over 7 1/3 innings to pick up his second straight win. Addison Redd spun a scoreless ninth to notch his 39th save of the season.
"Wins have been hard to come by, so it's nice that he got the win so he can feel good about it," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of Quintana.
J.P Arencibia cracked a solo homer for the Blue Jays, who have dropped three of their last four to fall to a disappointing 71-85 on the year. J.A. Happ (4-7) allowed all three Chicago runs over five innings to absorb the loss.
The White Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Viciedo opened the frame with a single before Semien cracked his first career homer, a line drive just inside the foul pole in left.
"I just put it right there for him," Happ said of Semien's homer. "I made it easy on him."
Arencibia opened the fifth with his 21st homer of the season to cut the Blue Jays' deficit in half, but Garcia began the home half with a four-bagger to right center to give Chicago a 3-1 edge.
Toronto pulled within 3-2 in the eighth after Ryan Goins singled home Kevin Pillar, who led off with a double to center.
