Eaton, Phillies look to continue streak, face Nationals

Jul 26, 2007 - 1:32 PM Washington (42-58) at Philadelphia (52-48) 1:05 pm EDT

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Phillies turn to Adam Eaton to help them reach their longest winning streak of the season.

Eaton and the Phillies aim for their third series sweep when they face the Washington Nationals on Thursday.

Philadelphia defeated Washington, 7-5, on Wednesday for its fifth straight victory, matching its five-game run from April 21-25. Another win would also put the Phillies five games over .500 for the first time this season

Eaton (9-6, 5.84 ERA) toes the rubber seeking his third victory in four starts. The righthander allowed two runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings in a 7-3 victory over the San Diego Padres last Friday.

The 29-year-old is 3-1 in his last five starts vs. the Nationals, but did not receive a decision against them on April 18, his only outing vs. Washington in 2007.

The Nationals counter with rookie John Lannan (NR), who will be making his major league debut. The lefthander, who was called up from Class AAA Columbus on Wednesday, is considered possibly Washington's most prized prospect.

Lannan, 22, is a combined 12-3 with a 2.36 ERA in 122 2/3 innings while pitching at three levels this season.
