Sosa, Mets aim to start new streak, face Nationals

FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- Jorge Sosa looks to break back into the win column when he takes the ball for the New York Mets in the opener of a four-game series against the Washington Nationals on Friday.

Since returning from the disabled list on July 16, Sosa (7-5, 4.36 ERA) is 0-2, surrendering eight runs and 13 hits in 10 innings. He has not won since June 30.

After opening 2007 at 6-1, Sosa is just 1-4 in his last six starts. He is 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA in six games - four starts - against the Nationals.

The Mets had their three-game winning streak snapped Thursday with an 8-4 loss to the Pittsburgh.

Washington counters with Mike Bacsik (3-6, 4.39), who looks to win two straight starts for the first time this season. The lefthander yielded just three hits in 6 2/3 innings in a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies last Saturday. Prior to that however, Bacsik was just 1-6 in his previous nine outings.

Bacsik is making his first appearance vs. the Mets, whom he pitched for in 2002-03.

The Nationals are coming off a series in which they lost two of three games to Philadelphia. They avoided a series sweep with a 7-6 triumph Thursday.
