Figgins and Angles look to continue offensive success
Jul 28, 2007 - 1:12 PM Detroit (60-42) at La Angels (59-42) 3:55 pm EDTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Chone Figgins and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim look to build on their offensive breakthrough in Friday's opener.
Figgins and the Angels face the Detroit Tigers in the middle game of a three-game series on Saturday.
Figgins went 4-for-4 with an RBI and Gary Matthews snapped out of a 0-for-19 slump with three RBI as Anaheim outslugged Detroit, 11-6. It was a welcome sight considering the Angels lost seven of nine after the All-Star break and managed just under four runs a game during that span.
However, Mike Scioscia's club has scored 27 runs in the last four games and will look to continue that success against rookie Andrew Miller.
Miller (5-3, 3.78 ERA) takes the mound looking to rebound from his worst start of the season. On Monday, the 22-year-old allowed five runs and a season-high 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings against Chicago.
Placido Polanco went 5-for-5 in the opener for Detroit, which has lost two straight and four of six.
Meanwhile, Joe Saunders (4-0, 2.89) will put his unbeaten record on the line for Anaheim, which has won two straight. Saunders beat Minnesota on Sunday by yielding just two runs and six hits in seven innings.
