Brewers look to keep offense in gear vs. Cardinals

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers will try to keep their offense rolling on Saturday when they play a doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The National League Central leader, the Brewers scored 12 runs and pounded out 19 hits in a 12-2 rout Friday night. Five players had multi-hit games, and four drove in at least two runs.

It was just the third win in its last eight games for Milwaukee, which holds a three-game lead in the Central over the Chicago Cubs.

Bill Hall came off the disabled list on Wednesday and has shown no ill effects, clubbing three hits, scoring two runs and driving in a pair against the Cardinals on Friday.

Hall will be taking his hacks against converted reliever Brad Thompson (6-4, 4.93 ERA). The 25-year-old righthander has yet to notch a win since moving back into the rotation on June 29 despite a respectable 4.67 ERA over that span.

Thompson has faced Milwaukee three times in relief this season, allowing a run and two hits in 3 1/3 frames.

The Brewers will counter with their own converted reliever Manny Parra (0-0, 3.86). The rookie lefthander has made just two appearances in his career, both out of the bullpen.

Parra has struck out four in 2 1/3 career major league innings.

The Cardinals have dropped five of their last seven home games.
