Twins aim for fourth straight win without Castillo
Jul 31, 2007 - 2:17 PM Kansas City (47-58) at Minnesota (54-51) 8:10 pm EDTMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) - The Minnesota Twins will continue a four-game series with the visiting Kansas City Royals on Tuesday without the services of one of their leading hitters.
The Twins on Monday traded second baseman Luis Castillo to the New York Mets in exchange for a pair of minor leaguers. Castillo, who is a free agent at the end of the season, was batting .304 with no homers and 18 RBI with nine steals in 85 games prior to the trade.
Minnesota won its first game without Castillo on Monday, taking the series opener 3-1 behind a strong performance from starter Scott Baker. The Twins have allowed just four runs total over their last three wins.
Carlos Silva (8-11, 4.76 ERA) will try to keep up the pace on Tuesday. The Venezuelan righthander has struggled of late, going 3-3 over his last six starts with a 6.75 ERA and allowing opponents a .308 batting average.
Jorge De La Rosa (8-10, 5.35) will counter for the Royals. The 26-year-old lefthander pitched 5 1/3 scoreless inning against the New York Yankees last Thursday, and shut down the Twins in his lone start against them this season, yielding one unearned run in eight innings to earn a win on April 22.
