Carmona cruises into matchup against Rangers
Jul 31, 2007 - 2:18 PM Texas (46-59) at Cleveland (60-45) 7:05 pm EDTCLEVELAND (Ticker) - The Cleveland Indians will conclude a 10-game homestand with a three-game series against the Texas Rangers beginning Tuesday night.
A road trip may be what the Indians need. They are 2-5 during the previous seven at Jacobs Field. Despite the slide, the Tribe trails the Detroit Tigers (61-44) by just one game in the American League Central Division.
The Indians' woes stem from their inability to score runs. They failed to score more than two runs in four of the losses and scored only one run in one of their two victories.
Fausto Carmona (13-4, 3.31 ERA) will start for the Indians. Carmona was outstanding in his last start against the Boston Red Sox, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He finished with eight scoreless innings, giving up just four hits while striking out six to lead the Indians to the 1-0 victory.
Facing Carmona will be Brandon McCarthy (4-7, 5.52). McCarthy will be looking for his first win since May 20, when he gave up just one run in a 14-1 win against cross-state rivals the Houston Astros.
