Holliday looks to stay hot against Marlins
Jul 31, 2007 - 2:42 PM Colorado (53-51) at Florida (49-57) 7:05 pm EDTMIAMI (Ticker) - Matt Holliday, the reigning National League Player of the Week, will try to continue his hot hitting when the Colorado Rockies visit the Florida Marlins for a three-game series.
Holliday hit .364 last week with four home runs, 10 RBI and nine runs scored, leading the Rockies to two series victories against National League West Division opponents in the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers. On the season, Holliday is hitting .332 with 20 home runs and 84 RBI.
While Holliday took home the award, the streaking Rockies, 9-4 since the All-Star break, had plenty of worthy candidates. Third baseman Garrett Atkins hit .435 with one home run and five RBI and catcher Yorvit Torrealba hit .421 with one home run and three RBI.
Tuesday's starter, Aaron Cook (7-6, 4.22 ERA) was also in contention after going 1-0 last week with a 2.00 ERA in 16 innings, striking out 10 in two starts.
The Marlins will start beleaguered Scott Olsen (8-8, 5.31) in the series opener. Olsen was suspended for two games after being arrested on charges of driving under the influence, eluding an officer and resisting an officer with violence on the morning of July 22. Olsen lost his one start since the suspension giving up seven runs and 11 hits against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
