Rios, Blue Jays look to continue Devil Rays' woes

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays will hope to put an end to their struggles when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday in the finale of a three-game series.

The Devil Rays have lost nine of their last 11 games and the Blue Jays are not thriving either, dropping three of their previous five contests.

Toronto has been plagued by injuries this year but the one of the bright spots has been All-Star outfielder Alex Rios, who has posted a .304 batting average with 20 homers and 61 RBI this season. The 26-year-old Rios is batting .338 (26-for-77) with three homers and nine RBI in 19 games since the break.

Josh Towers (5-7, 5.08 ERA) will take the mound for the Blue Jays. The 30-year-old righthander pitched 5 1/3 innings, yielding four runs and seven hits with five strikeouts in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox.

Tampa Bay will counter with Jason Hammel (1-1, 5.33), who has not won since June 18. In his second start of the season, the Greenville, South Carolina native gave up two runs and one hit with two walks and four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a 7-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Friday.
