Red Sox hope to have Gagne ready for Orioles

BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Red Sox hope to have Eric Gagne available when they continue a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.

Prior to Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline, the Red Sox acquired Gagne - a former Cy Young Award winner - from the Texas Rangers for lefthander Kason Gabbard and two minor leaguers.

Gagne, who is 2-0 with 16 saves and 2.16 ERA this season, will bolster an already deep Boston bullpen.

Kason Gabbard, who was dealt to Texas in the Gagne deal, was scheduled to start this contest for Boston. But it will now be Julian Tavarez (6-8, 5.08 ERA), who recently lost his spot in the rotation to Jon Lester.

In his last three starts, Tavarez is 0-2 and has been ripped for 14 runs in 14 1/3 innings.

On Tuesday, Erik Bedard battled through six innings en route to winning his seventh straight decision as the Orioles posted a 5-3 triumph.

Baltimore is 13-5 since the All-Star break, including wins in seven of its last eight games.

On Tuesday, the Orioles announced that manager Dave Trembley, who is 20-15 since replacing the fired Sam Perlozzo, would stay on until the end of the season.

Baltimore will start veteran Steve Trachsel (5-7, 5.26 ERA). The veteran righthander has not won since June 8, going 0-3 in his last six starts.

Trachsel is 1-0 with a 2.03 lifetime against the Red Sox.
