Gabbard makes debut for Rangers

CLEVELAND (Ticker) - Kason Gabbard makes his debut for his new team Thursday when he takes the mound for the Texas Rangers against the Cleveland Indians.

Prior to Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline, the Rangers acquired Gabbard (4-0, 3.73 ERA) along with two minor league outfielders from the Boston Red Sox for reliever Eric Gagne.

Gabbard, 25, was unbeaten in seven starts for the Red Sox this season. The lefthander faced the Indians here in his last start on July 26 and was not involved in the decision after allowing five runs and four hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Behind Gabbard, the Rangers are looking to complete a surprising three-game sweep.

C.J. Wilson, who has taken over the closing duties for the Rangers, has saves in each of the first two games of the series.

Cleveland has lost four straight and is a disappointing 2-7 on its 10-game homestand that ends with this contest.

One of the major disappointments for the Indians will be on the mound in Jake Westbrook (1-6. 5.85 ERA). The righthander, who signed a three-year, $33 million contract in the season's first month, is 0-4 in his last eight starts since beating Baltimore on April 27.

A positive for Westbrook is that he's 4-1 lifetime against the Rangers.
