Wakefield, Red Sox aim to take series from Orioles

BOSTON (Ticker) - Tim Wakefield hopes to celebrate his 41st birthday in style Thursday when he takes the mound for the Boston Red Sox against the Baltimore Orioles.

Originally scheduled to start Wednesday, Wakefield (12-9, 4.59 ERA) was pushed back a day. The righthander has won five of his last six starts entering this contest.

Wakefield is 11-11 with a 3.96 ERA in 29 starts against the Orioles, including 0-2 with a 5.00 ERA in the last three.

On Wednesday, the Red Sox rallied for a 5-4 victory. Kevin Youkilis' two-run double highlighted a four-run seventh inning for the Red Sox, who have beaten the Orioles in 25 of the last 30 meetings.

Baltimore counters with rookie Jeremy Guthrie (7-3, 2.89), who has no decisions vs. Boston in two career appearances.

The righthander also has had recent success, going 3-0 in his last three starts. The 27-year-old has allowed just four runs in 19 innings during his run, including giving up two runs and six hits in six innings in a 4-2 win vs. the New York Yankees last Friday.

Despite the loss on Wednesday, the Orioles have won seven of nine.
