Bonds continues chase of Aaron's record
Aug 4, 2007 - 3:13 PM San Francisco (47-60) at San Diego (58-50) 10:05 pm EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Barry Bonds hopes to tie and possible surpass Hank Aaron's all-time home run mark when the San Francisco Giants face the San Diego Padres on Saturday in the second of a three-game series.
Bonds, who has been stuck on 754 career homers since July 27, was held hitless in four at-bats - three against Padre starter Greg Maddux - in Friday's 4-3 loss.
The seven-time National League MVP is batting .269 with 20 home runs and 49 RBI in 95 games this season.
Clay Hensley (1-3, 6.49 ERA) will be the latest starter who will try to keep the Giants' slugger in the ballpark. Bonds is 2-for-11 with no home runs in his career against the 27-year-old.
The righthander will be making his first start since May 2 after working his way back from a groin injury. Hensley worked three successful appearances out of the bullpen since returning to the majors from Class AAA Portland at the end of July.
Hensley has made seven career appearances - four starts - against the Giants, going 1-3 with a 3.81 ERA.
He will be opposed by Patrick Misch (0-1, 4.91), who will be making his first career start. The 25-year-old lefthander has surrendered four runs and seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings in six appearances this season.
