McGowan, Blue Jays aim for eighth straight home win
Aug 5, 2007 - 1:16 PM Texas (48-62) at Toronto (55-54) 1:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) - The Toronto Blue Jays look to Dustin McGowan to achieve something they haven't done this decade.
McGowan and the Blue Jays aim for their second consecutive home sweep when they face the lowly Texas Rangers on Sunday.
Veteran slugger Frank Thomas hit two home runs to pass Eddie Murray for 20th on the all-time homer list and Shaun Marcum won his third straight start in Toronto's 9-5 victory over Texas on Saturday. Thomas has 505 career homers.
It also was the Blue Jays' seventh straight win at Rogers Centre. The club hasn't won eight straight here since April 14-22, 1999.
McGowan (7-5, 4.36 ERA) takes the mound looking to win his third straight decision. The 25-year-old also has been impressive at Rogers Centre, going 4-1 in six outings in 2007.
The Rangers, who have dropped three straight and have the second worst record in the American League, counter with Brandon McCarthy (5-7, 5.18).
The rangy righthander, who is 1-1 in two starts vs. the Blue Jays, won his last start after going 0-3 in his previous seven outings. McCarthy yielded a run and four hits in 6 2/3 innings in a 3-1 win over Cleveland on Tuesday.
