Schilling comes off DL to start against Angels
Aug 6, 2007 - 1:37 PM Boston (68-43) at La Angels (64-46) 10:05 pm EDTANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Curt Schilling returns to the rotation Monday as the Boston Red Sox open a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Schilling has missed nearly two months with tendinitis in his right shoulder after being placed on the disabled list on June 19.
In three rehab starts at Class AAA Pawtucket, Schilling was outstanding as he worked 15 scoreless innings, striking out 18 without a walk.
Schilling has to be happy he is returning to face the Angels since he is 5-1 with a 2.79 ERA lifetime against them.
Boston opened its nine-game road trip over the weekend by taking two of three contests from Seattle. The Red Sox, who have won seven of their last 10 games, hold a seven-game lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East Division.
Even though they are a mediocre 11-11 since the All-Star break, the Angels hold a 3 1/2-game lead over Seattle in the AL West.
The Angels turn to Jered Weaver (7-5, 4.00 ERA), who is coming off his worst start of the season. The righthander gave up six runs and a season-high 12 hits over six innings in losing to Seattle on Wednesday.
Weaver went 0-1 with a 2.84 ERA against the Red Sox as a rookie in 2006. He has not faced them this season.
