Cardinals look to win consecutive games after tying ML record
Aug 7, 2007 - 1:49 PM San Diego (60-51) at St Louis (51-58) 8:10 pm EDTST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The St. Louis Cardinals avoided their longest losing streak of the season thanks to an offensive outburst.
One day later, the Cardinals hope to carry some momentum over when they host the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.
St. Louis snapped a five-game skid Monday thanks to a 10-5 victory, highlighted by a 10-run fifth inning.
The Cardinals tied a major-league record in the frame, rattling off 10 consecutive hits.
Anthony Reyes (1-10, 6.07) will look to give St. Louis back-to-back wins when he takes the mound on Tuesday.
Reyes has struggled this season, getting his first win in 14 starts on July 28 against the Milwaukee Brewers. The righthander surrendered just two hits and two runs in six innings.
The Padres will look to get back on track after winning five straight before losing on Monday. San Diego ace Jake Peavy (11-5, 2.30 ERA) will start on Tuesday. The righthander is 5-0 in road starts this season, posting a 0.98 ERA.
For his career, Peavy is 2-2 with a 3.35 ERA in six games against the Cardinals.
