Dodgers look to rebound after being shut out
Aug 8, 2007 - 2:43 PM LA Dodgers (58-54) at Cincinnati (48-64) 7:10 pm EDTCINCINNATI (Ticker) -- After being shut out by the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series, the Los Angeles Dodgers will look to bounce back on Wednesday.
The Dodgers were held scoreless for the eighth time this season as they could not solve Bronson Arroyo, who was outstanding over 6 2/3 innings en route to picking up just his third in his last 13 decisions.
Chad Billingsley (7-2, 3.43 ERA) will toe the rubber for Los Angeles. After starting the season at 7-0 while moving from the bullpen into the rotation, the righthander has dropped his last two decisions.
Following his worst outing of the season in which he lasted just 4 1/3 innings at the Colorado Rockies on July 29, the 23-year-old ended up on the short side of a 1-0 loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday despite yielding five runs and striking out eight in 7 2/3 frames.
The rookie Billingsley has faced the Reds once this season on May 13, tossing 1 1/3 innings and striking out two as a reliever in the Dodgers' 10-5 win.
Despite leaving his last start on July 28 with a sore lower back, Cincinnati ace Aaron Harang (10-3, 3.54) is scheduled to start on Wednesday. The righthander faced just five batters - surrendering two runs on a home run by Derek Lee - in an 8-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs.
The loss was Harang's first in his last 13 starts dating back to May 20 against the Cleveland Indians. The 29-year-old had been 5-0 with a 2.47 ERA over that span.
In his career, Harang is 1-3 with a 5.47 ERA against the Dodgers.
