Gordon, Royals look to take rubber game against Blue Jays

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - Alex Gordon hopes to build off Saturday's excellent performance when the Kansas City Royals host the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday in the finale of a three-game series.

Gordon went 3-for-3 with a triple, a homer and two RBI in the Royals' 4-1 triumph over the Blue Jays on Sunday. The 23-year-old Nebraska alum is batting just .247 with nine blasts and 39 RBI on the season.

On Friday, Shaun Marcum carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, leading the Blue Jays to a 2-1 victory.

The Royals will send Brian Bannister (8-6, 3.32 ERA) to the mound. The 26-year-old righthander has been impressive in his last four starts, posting a 3-0 record and surrendering just five runs over 28 innings during that span.

Bannister will be opposed by A.J. Burnett (5-6, 4.31), who was winless in his previous five starts before going on the disabled list with a sore shoulder. The nine-year veteran pitched four innings, yielding five runs and six hits with six strikeouts in an 8-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins in his last outing on June 28.

The Blue Jays have lost three of their last five contests.
