Angels head to road to face Blue Jays
Aug 14, 2007 - 1:48 PM LA Angels (67-47) at Toronto (59-58) 7:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) -- As the front-runners in the American League West, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have built much of their success this season on a strong home-field advantage.
The Angels look to bring their hot streak out on the road when they visit the Toronto Blue Jays in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday.
The Angels own baseball's best home record at 40-17 and just completed a 5-1 homestand. The road, however, has not been as kind, with Anaheim carrying a mediocre 29-30 record.
A balanced attack has helped the Angels win five of their last six, outscoring the Red Sox and the Twins by a combined 40-21 over six games at Angel Stadium last week.
Anaheim's offense will get a tough test on Tuesday against former Cy Young award winner Roy Halladay (13-5, 4.17 ERA). The veteran righthander has won his last two starts, but has never fared well against the Angels, owning a 4-4 career mark with a 5.48 ERA over 11 starts.
Countering for the Angels will be Joe Saunders (6-0, 3.46). The 26-year-old lefthander has made nine starts this season, with Anaheim winning all but one. Saunders has yet to allow more than four earned runs in any start.
The Blue Jays are coming off a split of a four-game series at Kansas City.
