Davies searches for consistency as Royals face Rangers
Aug 14, 2007 - 1:52 PM Kansas City (52-65) at Texas (51-66) 8:35 pm EDTARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- Kyle is searching for some sort of consistency in the American League.
Davies takes the mound for the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday when they visit the Texas Rangers.
Davies (5-8, 5.64 ERA) has had one great start and one terrible outing since coming over to the Royals from the Atlanta Braves at the July 31 trade deadline.
Once the jewel of the Braves' system, Davies has struggled in parts of three seasons in the majors. The 23-year-old righthander's 6.09 career ERA is the worst mark of any active starting pitcher who has hurled more than 200 innings.
However, in his last start Davies put on a display of his talent, holding Minnesota to just three hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his first win as an American Leaguer. He allowed five runs and six hits in three innings in his first Kansas City appearance, not factoring in the decision on August 4.
The Rangers will counter with staff ace Kevin Millwood (7-9, 5.90). The veteran righthander is a product of the Atlanta farm system as well, spending his first six seasons in the majors with the Braves.
Millwood has struggled of late, going 1-1 with an 8.00 ERA in his last four starts while allowing opposing hitters a .385 average over that span.
