Final/10
Bedard hopes to beat Yankees again
Aug 15, 2007 - 1:26 PM Baltimore (55-63) at NY Yankees (67-52) 1:05 pm EDTBRONX, New York (Ticker) -- Erik Bedard looks to continue his roll when he starts for the Baltimore Orioles in the finale of a three-game series against the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
Emerging as a legitimate Cy Young candidate, Bedard (12-4, 3.11 ERA) has won his last eight decisons and is unbeaten in his last 11 starts since losing to Colorado on June 10.
During his impressive run, Bedard shut down the Yankees, limiting them to two hits over seven innings in a 4-0 win on June 27.
Bedard, who also beat the Yankees in April, leads the majors with 199 strikeouts.
Daniel Cabrera worked 6 2/3 strong innings and Aubrey Huff hit a grand slam and knocked in five runs as the Orioles coasted to a 12-0 victory on Tuesday.
The Yankees lost for just the third time in 15 games Tuesday. They fell five games back of Boston in the American League East while remaining in a virtual tie with Seattle in the wild card race.
Coming off a solid start, Phil Hughes (2-1, 4.64 ERA) takes the mound for the Yankees. The rookie righthander won his last start, allowing one run over six innings in a 6-1 triumph at Cleveland on Friday.
Hughes never has faced the Orioles.
