Diamondbacks look to rebound against Marlins

MIAMI (Ticker) -- After getting routed in their series opener with the Florida Marlins, the Arizona Diamondbacks look to get back on track Wednesday when the teams square off again.

The Diamondbacks lost their second straight contest Tuesday, a 14-5 rout at the hands of the Marlins. It marked the first time since July 19-20 that Arizona dropped consecutive games.

However, the Diamondbacks have won 17 of their last 22 games and are two games ahead of the San Diego Padres for first place in the National League West.

Doug Davis (9-10, 3.81 ERA) looks to win his third straight start - and fifth in his last seven - when he takes the mound for Arizona on Wednesday. The Diamondbacks are 6-0 in the last six games Davis has started.

During his last outing, Davis surrendered just two runs over seven innings as the Diamondbacks won, 4-2, over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The lefthander beat the Marlins on July 23, allowing three runs over 6 2/3 innings.

Florida counters with Sergio Mitre (5-5, 3.64), who will try to earn his first win since defeating the San Francisco Giants, 8-5, on July 29.

Mitre hasn't factored in the decision in his last two outings despite allowing six runs over 12 innings while striking out nine. The Marlins went onto win both of those games and have won five of Mitre's last seven starts, as the 26-year-old has gone 3-1 over that span.

Florida shortstop Hanley Ramirez will look to continue his hot hitting after he extended his current hitting streak to a career-high 11 games with a three-hit performance on Tuesday. The 23-year-old leads the National League with a .344 batting average.
