Phillies seek third consecutive win
Aug 15, 2007 - 1:56 PM Philadelphia (63-55) at Washington (54-65) 7:05 pm EDTWASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Phillies will try to extend their winning streak to three games when they visit the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.
Russell Branyan belted a two-run homer in the eighth inning to help the Phillies rally for a 3-2 victory in Tuesday's series opener. He was acquired from Cleveland last Thursday for cash considerations.
Philadelphia has won six of its last eight contests to pull within three games of the New York Mets (66-52) for first place in the National League East standings.
The Phillies on Wednesday hand the ball to rookie Kyle Kendrick (5-2, 3.75 ERA), who goes for his first road win since June 19. The 22-year-old righthander is 1-1 with a 2.14 ERA over his last three starts.
In his last start, Kendrick surrendered just two runs over seven innings for a no-decision against the Florida Marlins on Thursday.
Tim Redding (1-3, 2.86) counters for Washington, which had its impressive eight-game home winning streak snapped with Tuesday's loss. The righthanded Redding gave up four runs in seven frames of a 5-0 setback at San Francisco last week.
Redding is 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA over three lifetime starts against Philadelphia.
