Red-hot Young, Rangers host Royals

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- Michael Young hopes his hot bat will keep the Texas Rangers rolling when they host the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.

Young is currently on a nine-game hitting streak, going 13-for-32 (.406) with three home runs and six RBI in that span. The 30-year-old shortstop has posted a .307 batting average with seven homers and 64 RBI this season.

The Royals will send Gil Meche (7-10, 3.95 ERA) to the mound in hopes of shutting down Young and the rest of the Rangers' offense. The 28-year-old Meche has lost each of his last four starts, surrendering 15 runs over 23 2/3 innings during that stretch.

Meche will be opposed by Vicente Padilla (3-8, 6.69), who will make his first start since June 21 after going on the disabled list with an injured elbow.

The Nicaraguan righthander was tagged for four runs and 10 hits over just four innings in his last outing, a 6-5 triumph over the Chicago Cubs.

The Rangers have won four of their last six contests, including a 5-3 victory in Tuesday's series opener.

Young had two hits - including a homer - while Kevin Millwood tossed seven strong innings to record the win for Texas, which was swept in a three-game series in Kansas City late last month.

Mark Grudzielanek and rookie Billy Butler each had two hits Tuesday for the Royals, who have lost nine of their last 14 contests.
