Beckett aims for 15th win in second game of DH vs. Angels

BOSTON (Ticker) -- After the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's John Lackey gets his chance to become the major's first 15-game winner earlier in the day, Josh Beckett will have a turn.

Beckett will aim to win his third straight start when the Boston Red Sox and the Angels wrap up a day-night doubleheader on Friday.

Lackey had been expected to be apart of a matchup of All-Star starters in the second game, but was moved up to the opening game to face the Red Sox's Clay Buchholz in his major league debut.

Beckett (15-5, 3.24 ERA) has won his last two starts, allowing a total of three runs in 15 1/3 innings on the road at the Seattle Mariners and the Baltimore Orioles. The 27-year-old righthander dominated the Angels back on April 16 here, picking up a win while allowing one run and six hits in six frames.

Fenway Park has not been quite as kind to Beckett as the road has, however, as the native of Texas owns a 7-4 record with a 4.50 ERA in his home starts in 2007.

The Angels will be making a minor league call-up to fill their spot in the rotation, recalling righthander Ervin Santana (5-11, 6.22 ERA). The 24-year-old Dominican native was sent down after going 0-5 with an 8.45 ERA over six starts between June 15 and July 17.

Santana has been even worse on the road this season, managing just a 1-9 mark with an 8.79 ERA in 11 starts.
