Indians look to continue winning ways over Devil Rays
Aug 18, 2007 - 1:06 PM Cleveland (67-54) at Tampa Bay (46-75) 7:10 pm EDTST. PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- The Cleveland Indians look to continue the success they have enjoyed over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays when the teams continue their three-game series on Saturday.
The Indians received a strong pitching performance in Friday's 2-1 win from starter Paul Byrd, who allowed a run over six innings to his club beat the Devil Rays for the sixth straight time and 13th in 14 contests dating back to last season.
Jake Westbrook (3-7, 5.01 ERA) will look to continue that success and aim to stop his season-long struggles on the road. The sinkerballer carries a 7.01 ERA away from Jacobs Field as opposed to a 3.84 ERA at home.
After he struggled for just one win through the first four months of the season, a span of 13 starts, the righthanded Westbrook is 2-1 with a 2.14 ERA in August.
The righthander surrendered four runs and nine hits over seven frames in a 5-3 loss to the New York Yankees on Sunday to see his a personal two-game winning streak snapped. However, he has enjoyed some success in 11 lifetime starts against the Devil Rays, going 5-2 with a 3.89 ERA.
Jason Hammel (1-2, 6.63) will be looking for his first win in six turns as a starter. The 24-year-old was knocked around over four innings in a 9-1 loss at the Texas Rangers on Sunday, permitting five runs and seven hits.
The righthander has made just two prior appearances against the Indians, including one start, and is 0-1 with a 11.57 ERA.
