Halladay faces Orioles, seeks fourth straight win
Aug 19, 2007 - 1:02 PM Baltimore (57-64) at Toronto (62-60) 1:07 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) -- A pair of pitchers heading in opposite directions will be on the mound Sunday as the Toronto Blue Jays host the Baltimore Orioles in the finale of a three-game set.
Toronto starter Roy Halladay (14-5, 3.99 ERA) will be seeking his fourth victory in as many starts as the Blue Jays look to take the rubber game of this series.
The former Cy Young Award winner pitched a complete game in his last outing on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The righthander allowed just five hits and a walk in the 4-1 victory.
Halladay has traditionally given the Orioles problems as he's 14-4 with a 2.92 ERA in 23 career appearances - 19 starts - against the team.
Jeremy Guthrie (7-4, 3.50) counters for the Orioles, who won here for the first time since August 8, 2006 on Saturday.
The rookie righthander has been a bright spot for the Orioles this season, but is struggling in August going 0-1 in with a 9.00 ERA in three starts. Those starts came against the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox - all playoff contenders.
Toronto designated hitter Frank Thomas walked for the 1,612th time in his career during Saturday's 5-3 loss, moving him two base on balls away from tying Eddie Yost for ninth all-time.
The Blue Jays have hit a double in 25 consecutive games which is the longest active streak in the majors. The club record is 31 (April 11-May 14, 2004).
The last time the Orioles won two games in a series at Toronto was August 30-September 1, 2005.
