Capuano hopes to avoid dubious club record
Aug 19, 2007 - 1:35 PM Cincinnati (53-69) at Milwaukee (63-60) 2:05 pm EDTMILWAUKEE (Ticker) - Chris Capuano will look to avoid setting a dubious team record when the Milwaukee Brewers play the rubber game of their three-game set with the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.
Capuano (5-10, 5.23 ERA) who went 5-0 in his first seven starts, has dropped 10 straight decisions over 15 starts since his last win on May 7. His 10 straight losses are one shy of the team record established by Chris Bosio from May 21-August 26, 1988, and later matched by Glendon Rusch from April 13-September 26, 2003.
His last outing was more of the same as he surrendered seven runs and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings on Tuesday in a 12-4 setback to St. Louis. Perhaps the lefthander can recapture his early-season magic against the Reds, whom he is 1-0 against with a 0.66 ERA in two starts this season.
However, Capuano likely will have to be in top form to defeat Reds starter Aaron Harang (12-3, 3.50), who has lost just once since May 20 on his way to winning seven of his last eight decisions.
Harang survived through a tough outing on Tuesday to get the win in a 6-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs in which five runs and four hits over seven frames. He will look to improve his 4-3 record and 4.46 ERA in 12 career starts against Milwaukee.
The Brewers snapped a five-game losing streak with Saturday's 8-4 win. They trail the Cubs (63-59) by one game in the NL Central.
