Pair of aces headline series finale

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - After exhausting their bullpens in Saturday's 14-inning marathon, the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers look for long, quick outings from their staff aces in the rubber game of their three-game set on Sunday.

Matt Holliday singled in the go-ahead run in the 14th inning as the Rockies posted a 7-4 win on Saturday. It was Colorado's second-longest game in franchise history, a contest that lasted over five hours.

Brad Penny (14-3, 2.61 ERA) will be aiming to become the first National League pitcher and third in the majors to reach 15 wins when he starts for the Dodgers. His ERA puts him only behind San Diego's two standout pitchers - Chris Young (1.93 ERA) and Jake Peavy (2.19) - in the NL in that category.

After losing two straight decisions, the two-time All-Star righthander grabbed his 14th win in a 6-3 victory over Houston, allowing three runs and 10 hits over six frames. Penny has enjoyed great success in his 18 lifetime starts against the Rockies, going 12-2 with a 2.69 ERA.

Opposing Penny will be Jeff Francis (13-5, 4.43), who looks to tie his career high in wins and hopes to become the fifth NL pitcher to win 14 games. However, he will need to recover from his worst outing of the season against San Diego in which he surrendered a season-high eight runs and six hits with a season-high six walks in Tuesday's 8-0 loss.

He has had good fortune against the Dodgers though, going 3-1 with a 2.80 ERA in seven lifetime starts.
