Astros aim to end three-game slump vs. Nationals
Aug 22, 2007 - 2:03 PM Washington (57-69) at Houston (56-70) 8:05 pm EDTHOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Houston Astros will look to rebound on Wednesday after losing the first two games of the four-game series against the Washington Nationals.
The Nationals took the second game of the series, 11-6, on Tuesday after shutting out the Astros, 7-0, on Monday. Ryan Zimmerman hit a two-run homer - his 19th of the season - and Nook Logan became the first player in Nationals history to log five hits in a game.
Washington has won seven of its last eight games against Houston.
Woody Williams (7-12, 4.92 ERA) will look to continue his recent success when he takes the mound for the Astros on Wednesday. The 41-year-old has allowed just four runs in 20 innings over his previous three starts, going 2-0 over that span.
In his last outing, the righthanded Williams yielded a run and six hits over seven innings en route to a 3-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday.
Since serving up Barry Bonds' record-breaking 756th career home run on August 7, Mike Bacsik (5-6, 4.61) has not registered a decision. Before Bonds' blast, the righthander had won three consecutive starts, but Bacsik's last two appearances have come out of the bullpen, where he has pitched three perfect innings.
During his last start on August 12, Bacsik lasted just four innings, surrendering five runs and eight hits in a 7-6 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
