Diamondbacks' Webb looks to extend scoreless streak

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Brandon Webb looks to add the Milwaukee Brewers to his recent list of clubs who finished the game without someone crossing home plate.

Webb tries to extend his scoreless streak with a potential fourth straight shutout when the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Brewers in the finale of a three-game series on Wednesday.

The reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, Webb (13-8, 2.63 ERA) tossed a two-hitter for his third consecutive shutout in a 4-0 at the Atlanta Braves on Friday. That outing pushed his scoreless streak to 42 innings.

The ace righthander is 18 innings away from snapping Orel Hershiser's major league record of 59 straight frames without a run set in 1988.

"There is a lot going on with his start but the most important thing is getting a win," Arizona manager Bob Melvin said. "That is what his focus will be going into the game. We have been playing pretty good up until this point but we have lost three in a row and that is why you have guys like Brandon. That is why you have an ace."

Milwaukee's Jeff Suppan (8-10, 4.89) gets the call with the hopes of picking up his first win since June 22. In his last outing, Suppan was a victim of four errors in an 8-4 loss to Cincinnati.

The 32-year-old righthander has failed go at least six innings in 10 of his last 14 starts after doing so through his first 12 outings.

On Tuesday, Gabe Gross recorded his second career grand slam to help the Brewers take the first two games of the series with a 7-4 win.
