Halladay looks to maintain Blue Jays dominance over Angels

Aug 24, 2007 - 3:05 PM Toronto (64-63) at LA Angels (74-53) 10:05 pm EDT

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) - As if their struggles against the Toronto Blue Jays weren't enough, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have the pleasure of facing ace Roy Halladay when the teams continue their four-game set on Friday.

The Angels lost 5-4 on Thursday in the series opener and fell to 1-3 against Toronto on the season. As a result, they have dropped 16 of the last 22 contests against the Blue Jays.

Two starts ago on August 14, Halladay (14-5, 3.89 ERA) picked up his 14th win in a 4-1 Blue Jays victory over these same Angels. It was the first of consecutive nine-inning outings for the 30-year-old, who took a no-decision despite allowing two runs and six hits over nine frames in Sunday's 3-2, 10-inning win as the Blue Jays could not push across the go-ahead run until the 10th.

However, in 12 lifetime starts against Anaheim, Halladay is 5-4 with two complete games and a 4.95 ERA.

The four-time All-Star will be opposed by Jered Weaver (8-6, 4.16), who would like to forget his last start when he surrendered six runs and eight hits in Saturday's 10-5 loss in Boston.

As luck would have it, the righthander opposed Halladay in his only other outing against Toronto, receiving a win on September 10 of last season, permitting three runs and six hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out eight.
