Mariners' offense looks to keep rolling vs. Rangers

Aug 25, 2007 - 1:27 PM Seattle (73-53) at Texas (56-72) 8:35 pm EDT

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) - The Seattle Mariners have become the comeback kids. The way Horacio Ramirez has been pitching lately that title will be put to test on Saturday against the Texas Rangers.

Jose Guillen homered and hit a go-ahead single in the seventh inning and Felix Hernandez threw six strong frames as the Mariners posted a 4-2 win on Friday.

Seattle, which leads the majors with 37 come-from-behind victories, took the series opener on Thursday by scoring six times in the sixth inning en route to a 9-4 win.

Ramirez (8-4, 7.15 ERA) takes the hill for the Mariners, who trail the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (75-53) by one game in the American League West. Ramirez allowed four runs and nine hits in 7 1/3 innings of a 9-4 win over Minnesota on Monday. Overall, the righthander has allowed 21 runs over his last 21 1/3 frames.

Texas, which scored an American League-record 30 runs in the first game of a doubleheader against Baltimore on Wednesday, has been stymied by Jeff Weaver and Hernandez. They should have a chance to break out against Ramirez, who has a road ERA of 11.57.

Jamey Wright (3-5, 4.11) gets the ball for the Rangers, who have lost five of seven. Wright, who has not pitched since July 27, was the odd man out when the Rangers acquired Kason Gabbard from Boston at the trade deadline. In his last start Wright allowed five runs and 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings in a 6-1 loss to Kansas City.
