Nationals look to rebound after Rockies rally

Aug 25, 2007 - 2:11 PM Washington (58-70) at Colorado (65-63), 8:05 pm EDT

DENVER (Ticker) - After allowing five runs in the ninth inning to suffer a 6-5 setback on Friday, the Washington Nationals will look to get back on track against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.

Before the loss, the Nationals had been playing solid baseball, winning three of their last four. However, Chad Cordero blew his ninth save of the season as the Rockies stole the first game of the three-game series.

The four-run deficit was the largest margin Colorado has overcome this season and the fourth time it has come from behind in the ninth inning this season. All four of the comebacks have come at Coors Field.

Rookie Ubaldo Jimenez (2-2, 4.54 ERA) will try to lead the Rockies to back-to-back victories when he takes the mound on Saturday. The 23-year-old righthander allowed just one run in the first inning during his last start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. Jimenez scattered five hits while striking out four over seven innings, but did not factor in the decision as the Rockies could not hold a 2-1 lead, suffering a 4-2 loss in 11 innings.

Tim Redding (3-3, 2.53 ERA) toes the rubber for the Nationals. Redding looks to extend his win streak to three after pitching seven shutout innings against the Houston Astros on Monday. The righthander allowed six hits and struck out two while walking three in the Nationals' 7-0 victory.
