Jurrjens, Hughes face off as Tigers meet Yankees

DETROIT (Ticker) - Both the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees will send a pair of young arms to the hill on Sunday in the third game of a four-game series.

Jair Jurrgens (1-1, 3.29 ERA), who was brilliant in his last outing, starts for the Tigers. On Tuesday, Jurrgens gave up one hit over 6 2/3 innings en route to a 2-1 victory over Cleveland.

The 21-year-old righthander hopes to give another strong outing before giving way to veteran Kenny Rogers, who could return to the rotation from the disable list soon.

Hughes (2-1, 4.96) hopes to continue his success away from home when he starts for the Yankees. The righthander is 2-0 with a 2.89 ERA in his three starts away from Yankee Stadium.

The 6-5 righthander is making his first appearance against the defending American League champion Tigers, who are 2 1/2 games behind the Indians 71-57) in the AL Central.

On Saturday, Ace Chien-Ming Wang pitched eight strong innings and Johnny Damon homered as New York coasted to a 7-2 triumph and drew within two games of Seattle (73-54) in the AL wild card race.
