Washburn looks to help Mariners end road trip on high note

ARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) - Jarrod Washburn and the Seattle Mariners look to end their road trip on a high note before returning home for a key showdown with the American League West-leading Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Washburn takes the hill as the Mariners aim to take the rubber game of a three-game series with the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

Ian Kinsler homered and drove in three runs as the Rangers took advantage of a pair of error's by third basemen Adrian Beltre to post a 5-3 win on Saturday. Kinsler hit a game-tying three-run shot in the fifth inning. The inning was kept alive on a throwing error by Beltre one batter earlier. Then, in the seventh Beltre made a throwing error that allowed the go-ahead run to score.

Seattle, which is 4-2 on its seven-game road trip, remained one game behind the Angels (75-54) in the AL West and leads the New York Yankees (72-57) by two games in the wild card race.

Washburn (9-10, 4.11 ERA), who picked up his first win since July 4 in his last outing, will look to give the Mariners some momentum before their huge series with Anaheim. On Tuesday, Washburn allowed two runs and five hits in six innings of a 7-2 win over Minnesota.

Vicente Padilla (3-9, 6.55) takes the hill for Texas looking for his first win in four starts. Padilla was touched for six runs and seven hits in five innings of a 6-2 loss to Baltimore on Tuesday.
