Surprising Reds look to continue surge against Marlins

Aug 26, 2007 - 2:12 PM Florida (57-73) at Cincinnati (59-70) 1:15 pm EDT

CINCINNATI (Ticker) - The Cincinnati Reds are making the most of their stay at home.

The Reds aim to wrap up a seven-game homestand with their season-high sixth straight win when they complete a weekend series with the Florida Marlins on Sunday.

Brandon Phillips has been the catalyst on the Reds' current tear, going 10-for-22 (.455) with two home runs, five RBI and six runs scored in the last five contests.

The 26-year-old Phillips had two hits in Saturday's 11-7 win over the Marlins, including an RBI single in the first inning. He also scored two runs.

Cincinnati will turn to Mike Gosling (2-0, 4.05 ERA), who will be making his first start of the season.

The 26-year-old lefthander has made 19 relief appearances this season, winning his last outing with a scoreless 12th inning in a 9-7 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.

Rookie Daniel Barone (0-1, 4.40) will make his fourth career start for the Marlins. The 24-year-old righthander allowed a run and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings, but did not figure in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Florida has lost 10 of its previous 11 contests.
