Braves look to stop struggles against Marlins
Aug 27, 2007 - 1:16 PM Atlanta (67-64) at Florida (57-74) 7:05 pm EDTMIAMI (Ticker) - The Atlanta Braves will hope to halt their recent struggles and remain in the National League playoff race when they visit the Florida Marlins on Monday in the opener of a three-game series.
The Braves have lost five of their last six contests and now trail the division-leading New York Mets (73-56) by seven games in the NL East. They also trail the San Diego Padres (70-59) by four games in the wild card race.
Atlanta will send Lance Cormier (0-4, 9.00 ERA) to the mound. The 27-year-old Cormier is making just his sixth appearance - fifth start - of the season and the Braves are 1-5 in those contests.
The Marlins will counter with Scott Olsen (9-11, 5.39), who has lost four of his last five decisions. Olson was tagged for six runs, 10 hits and three homers over 6 1/3 innings in a 6-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday.
Florida is also struggling, losing three straight and 11 of its last 12 games.
