Braves look for back-to-back wins against Marlins

MIAMI (Ticker) - The Atlanta Braves look for consecutive wins when they continue a three-game series against the Florida Marlins on Tuesday.

Chipper Jones collected three hits, scored three times and had two RBI, leading the Braves to a 13-2 rout in Monday's series opener. He had missed Sunday's game against St. Louis with a strained groin.

Atlanta is trying to win consecutive games for the first time since August 19-20. The Braves are six games back of the New York Mets (73-57) in the National League East and four games behind San Diego (71-59) in the wild card race.

John Smoltz (12-6, 3.01 ERA), who was originally was scheduled to start on Wednesday, will switch places with Buddy Carlyle and start for the Braves on Tuesday. Atlanta's ace was stellar in his last start against St. Louis on Friday, allowing two runs and six hits over eight innings in a 7-2 win.

The Marlins have lost 12 of their last 13 games, including their last seven at home.

Rick VandenHurk (4-4, 6.95) starts for the Marlins. The righthander won for the first time since July 17 in his last outing when he gave up one run and four hits over five innings against St. Louis.
