Eaton returns from DL as Phillies face Mets
Aug 28, 2007 - 1:16 PM Ny Mets (73-57) at Philadelphia (68-62) 7:05 pm EDTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - All-Star Chase Utley gave the Philadelphia Phillies a boost in his return from the disabled list. Now Adam Eaton get his chance to do the same.
Eaton returns from the DL to face the New York Mets in the second game of a four-game series on Tuesday.
Utley, who had been out since July 27 with a broken hand, homered and drove in two runs and J.D. Durbin threw six-plus effective innings in a 9-2 victory in Monday's opener. Jayson Werth continued his hot stretch in the win, going 4-for-4, and is now 9-for-9 in his last two games - one shy of the NL record set by 10 different players.
Philadelphia, which won for just the third time in nine games, trails the Mets by five games in the National League East, and is three games behind San Diego (71-59) in the wild card race.
Eaton (6-8, 6.36 ERA) will look to provide a similar spark that Utley's return gave Philadelphia. The righthander has been on the disabled list since August 15 with right shoulder inflammation. Prior to being placed on the disabled list, Eaton allowed six runs and eight hits in a season-low three innings in a 7-5 loss to Atlanta on August 11.
His opposition will be future Hall of Famer Tom Glavine (11-6, 4.32), who is unbeaten in his last eight starts. In his last outing, the 41-year-old lefthander was roughed up for six runs and 11 hits in five innings, but did not factor into the decision in a 9-8 loss to San Diego on Thursday.
