Dodgers look to keep pressure on division, wild card leaders
Aug 28, 2007 - 1:33 PM Washington (58-74) at LA Dodgers (68-63) 10:10 pm EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Knowing they have to take care of business at home before they set out for a long 10-game road trip, the Los Angeles Dodgers continue their three-game series with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.
The Dodgers, who have defeated the Nationals in six of their last seven meetings, posted a 5-4 win in Monday's series opener. They moved 5 1/2 games behind NL West-leading Arizona (74-58) and remained 3 1/2 behind second-place San Diego (71-59), which leads the NL wild card race.
Los Angeles will turn to Chad Billingsley (8-4, 3.48 ERA), who picked up his first win since July 23 in his last outing, yielding one run and four hits over seven frames in a 5-2 win at Philadelphia.
In between those two wins, the righthander lost four consecutive starts and was winless in five straight despite allowing three runs or fewer in three of those outings.
In his only other career start against the Nationals, Billingsley permitted one run over six innings in a 13-1 win on July 28, 2006.
Washington counters with Jason Bergmann (2-5, 4.56), who is making his first start since July 24 after a stint on the disabled list with left hamstring tightness. The righthander will be facing the Dodgers for the first time.
