Rangers aim for third straight win
Aug 28, 2007 - 2:18 PM Chi White Sox (57-74) at Texas (58-72) 8:35 pm EDTARLINGTON, Texas (Ticker) -- Although they are still saddled with one of the worst records in the American League, the Texas Rangers look to take advantage of their recent strong play and the slumping Chicago White Sox when the teams begin a three-game series on Tuesday.
Starting with Kason Gabbard's last start on Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader - a 30-3 whitewashing of the Baltimore Orioles - the Rangers have won four of six, including a four-game series split with AL Wild Card leader Seattle (73-56).
Despite falling behind early, 3-0, in the Wednesday's rout, Gabbard (6-1, 3.65 ERA) watched his offense tally an AL-record for runs in a game with 30, 14 of which came in support of him before departing after six frames, allowing three runs and seven hits.
The lefthander has won both of his lifetime starts against Chicago while maintaining a 0.64 ERA. In the White Sox, he meets a team that - despite a 5-4 win over Tampa Bay on Monday - had lost five straight contests by a combined score of 53-13, including being embarrassed in a four-game series against the Red Sox over the weekend.
Chicago will look for Gavin Floyd (1-2, 7.36), who will make his first career start against Texas, to pick it up after four relief appearances, the last of which was a four-runs, four-hit outing over 3 2/3 innings in Friday's 10-1 loss to Boston.
