Robertson hopes to keep Tigers on track

Aug 28, 2007 - 2:26 PM Detroit (71-60) at Kansas City (57-72) 8:10 pm EDT

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- If the Detroit Tigers are going to stay in the playoff hunt, they need to take care of business on the road.

The Tigers look to gain ground in the American League Central Division standings when they open a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.

Nate Robertson (7-10, 4.80 ERA) gets the call for Detroit, which trails Cleveland (73-57) by 2 1/2 games in the division. Last time out, the lefthander blanked the Indians through 8 2/3 innings but failed to get the decision on Thursday.

Robertson might be looking for some payback in this one after Kansas City collected five runs and 11 hits against him in a 5-2 victory July 22.

The Tigers are riding high following Monday's 16-0 rout of the New York Yankees. Justin Verlander worked seven brilliant innings and Placido Polanco homered for Detroit, which won three of four games in the series.

Brian Bannister (10-7, 3.28) gets the call for the Royals, who have lost eight of the last 12 meetings. The righthander enters winning three of four starts overall, including a 7-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
