Giants look for seventh straight win

Aug 29, 2007 - 2:01 PM Colorado (67-65) at San Francisco (61-72) 3:35 pm EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- Even though they find themselves in the National League West basement, the San Francisco Giants are slowly working their way out. They look to complete a sweep of the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.

The Giants' most recent victory, a 3-1 triumph on Tuesday in which Matt Cain won for the fourth time in five starts, enabled San Francisco to win its sixth straight game.

To prolong the streak, San Francisco will send Noah Lowry (14-7, 3.59 ERA) to the mound as he seeks his sixth consecutive win over an eight-start stretch. Perhaps more impressive is that he has yet to lose in the month of August in his career, going 12-0 with a 2.78 ERA in 20 starts.

The lefthander had a little bit of help from his offense in securing his last win, getting the decision in Friday's 11-6 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers even though he surrendered a season-high six runs and a career-worst 12 hits over five frames.

Lowry will also need to overcome his history against Colorado, as he is just 2-5 with a 7.02 ERA against in 11 career starts.

In an effort to stave off since June 25-27, the Rockies will turn to Jeff Francis (13-6, 4.32). He is winless in his last three outings, following a stretch in which he notched eight straight wins over an 11-start span.

The lefthander did not factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 win over the Washington Nationals, surrendering four runs - two earned - and seven hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Francis is 4-5 with a 5.55 ERA in 12 career starts against the Giants.
