Jones, Braves meet Marlins in rubber match

MIAMI (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Braves are struggling and their playoff hopes are fading fast.

Chipper Jones hopes he can help alleviate the Braves' struggles when they face the Florida Marlins on Wednesday in the finale of a three-game series.

Despite the team's 2-6 record over its last eight games, Jones has been swinging his bat well, going 11-for-28 (.393) with two home runs and 11 RBI over his previous six contests. He belted a two-run shot in the Marlins' 4-3 win on Tuesday.

With its struggles, Atlanta has fallen six games out in the National League East and five behind in the wild card.

The Braves will send Buddy Carlyle (7-5, 5.00 ERA) to the mound. Carlyle is winless in his last three starts, posting a 0-2 record with an 8.79 ERA over that stretch.

The Marlins will counter with Dontrelle Willis (8-13, 4.96), who has registered just one win since the end of May. Florida is just 4-12 in games Willis has started since then.

The Marlins have just two wins in their last 14 contests.
