Tigers aim to bounce back vs. Royals
Aug 29, 2007 - 3:27 PM Detroit (71-61) at Kansas City (58-72) 8:10 pm EDTKANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers will try to rebound in the second game of a three-game set against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.
After registering a season-high 16 runs against the New York Yankees in the previous game on Monday, the Tigers continued to struggle against division foes as they dropped a 6-3 contest in Tuesday's series opener.
Detroit is 3 1/2 games behind the first-place Cleveland Indians (74-57) in the American League Central standings. The Tigers have lost 12 of their last 17 games against division rivals and are 8-12 in the American League Central since the All-Star break.
In his last outing, Tigers rookie Andrew Miller (5-4, 4.67 ERA) gave up six runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings, not figuring into Friday's 8-6 win over the Yankees. It was his first game since coming off the 15-day disabled list with a hamstring strain.
The 22-year-old lefthander will be making his first career start against the Royals. Miller is seeking his first victory since defeating Minnesota on July 18.
Zack Greinke (5-5, 4.25) gets the call for the Royals. Ironically, the righthander's last appearance as a stater came against Detroit on May 6, when he was tagged for six runs and nine hits in four innings.
It was Greinke's last start before manager Buddy Bell removed the 23-year-old from the rotation. He is 6-3 in 12 career games in the series.
