Bonderman, Tigers look to end struggles

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - Jeremy Bonderman will look to snap a six-game losing streak when the Detroit Tigers face the Kansas City Royals on Thursday in the finale of a three-game series.

Bonderman (10-7, 4.87 ERA) started the campaign winning 10 of his first 11 decisions, but has struggled over the past two months. The 24-year-old righthander is 0-6 with an 8.78 ERA in his previous seven starts.

The Tigers have dropped eight of their last 12 and fallen 4 1/2 games behind the American League Central Division-leading Cleveland Indians (75-57).

The Royals will counter with Leo Nunez (2-1, 3.00), who is making just his sixth career start. The Dominican righthander suffered his worst outing of the season in his last start, yielding four runs and six hits over four frames in a 5-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox on August 21.

Kansas City has received a lift from third baseman Alex Gordon, who has driven in four runs during the first two games of the series.
